Sad Display Setting Problems

Ok so I just got a new card for my PC, an ATI Radeon 9250... Yeah I know its not that great a card right now but I have an AGP board, not much money and I got the card for free. Not to mention its a pretty good upgrade from my Geforce MX420. Anyways... Im having trouble now and I have tryed uninstalling using DC pro and reinstalling, I must have tryed this a few times a few different ways.

This is my problem...

My games and desktop are pretty dark with my monitor, so I use the color settings to adjust the brightness and gamma. I do this for my Desktop and Full Screen 3D(which effects games like DoD: Source and such right?). Well not only does the Full Screen 3D settings seem to not effect anything but when I exit the game my desktop looks like it would if I had default settings. So I go to my color menu to fix it and it does a sort of "refresh" to the settings I had set to make it look like I want.

Now from what I have read and been told by friends and people I talk to via Teamspeak, it sounds like a problem with when I installed my drivers. Which would make sense because I know I overlaped my ATI drivers and my old Nvidia drivers, I've never installed drivers before I had a reall pain trying to get rid of the Nvidia drivers because there was no uninstall file and it wasnt in add/remove programs so I ended up deleteing the file and using DC pro. Then I uninstalled ATI drivers using add/remove and then I used DC pro. I then restarted windows in VGA mode(read Im sappose to do that) and fresh installed my ATI drivers. Same problem, so I uninstalled my ATI drivers again used DC pro and tryed these Omega drivers. Same problem.

If I could get some opinions on my situation and maybe a guide to using DC pro? Im not really sure if Im doing that right. Maybe a guide to uninstalling drivers? Because Ive been doing add/remove programs and I have a feeling thats not doing it right.

Thanks in advance.
-Tobes

Edit: Wow I cant beleive I forgot to mention... I've also gotten what I think was called a "VPU Error" where it said it had to restart... something, sorry I cant remember what is says but Ill write it down next time it happens.

The best guide to using the DriverCleaner is at the site www.drivercleaner.net but basically it goes like this:

Use Add/Remove Programs to uninstall the driver and control panel - anything ATI

Reboot to safe mode and use the DriverCleaner to clean out all the ATI and Nvidia items

Reboot to normal and install the video driverset.

Sounds like you've got it basically correct too, but there are often little quirks in the process depending upon your particular setup of hardware and software.

You would do well to read posts in the Graphics Cards forums (Windows Radeon Display Driver forum particularly...) and the Software/Tools forums (the DriverHeaven Tools Discussion forum mainly...) - take your time, use the Search function - you'll learn a lot...

And, this seems a driver issue so I'll move this there...

Edit : Read this thread?

Someone suggested it could be my motherboard bios so I updated those and still doesnt work.

Its the drivers, simple as. Just follow my guide(linked above) on using hotkeys to reset your brightness and colour, when playing games and coming out of them, and that'll be the best you can hope for, for now...and forever.

The VPU recovery thing was happening to me alot with the older drivers (5.6 through till 5.8). I've been sticking with the Omegadriver 5.9 since they've came out and not gotten one since. Exception being while playing World of Warcraft in certain areas of the game, which has been noted by Blizzard and ATI, so hopefully will be fixed.

So at the end of the day, install the Omegadrivers, use the ATT(ATI Tray Tools, great program which comes with the driver) colour/hotkey settings and pray nothing else comes along to screw up your gaming pleasure

If you read my post, on the link that was provided above by swimtech, you'd know I have the same issue. And its to be blamed fully on the drivers.

The colour and brightness settings have never properly worked in the ATI drivers since day 1 of owning my 9800XT. The only reason more people don't care about this fact is that they have monitors that can compensate. My monitor however, and I'd assume yours as well, is already at max brightness and contrast. But still, playing games at default is greatly impossible.

So you've 3 options ahead of you:

1. Put up with it, install the Omegadrivers or ATT by itself and continue to keep flicking through hotkeys whenever you load up a game, change resolution and drop back to your desktop.
2. Buy a new monitor with a higher range of brightness.
3. Buy a Nvidia card, which drivers have no problems with remembering profiles.

Good luck with whatever you decide.
