well here's some 3dmark05 cat 5.11 single core cpu vs cat 5.12 dual core cpu comparisons with X1800XT http://i4memory.com/showthread.php?t=1910

5.12 definitely good for dual core cpus !

People with .NET 2.0 and CCC issues

I was having issues with CCC loading with .net 2.0. I was over at the rage3d forums and one person said they got it working by starting CCC and let it hang up. Open the task manager and kill the CLI.exe process. Then reopen it again it worked from there on. Even after a reboot. He also mentioned he has the splash screen disabled and hotkey manager disabled. I did these steps too and now mine works. I did have to kill 2 of the CLI.exes for it to work. Hope this helps some of you.

Thanks you for this but it didn't help. This is what I did to get the CCC 5.12 Cat's to work. I had .net framework 2.0 installed and NOT 1.1. I uninstalled ATI drivers and CP (CCC) with the XP Add/Remove then with Driver cleaner pro. Uninstalled .net 2.0. Rebooted and installed .net 1.1 and then installed the Cat's 5.12's with CCC and it now works fine. Why the 5.11's worked with .net 2.0 and not the 5.12' is beyond me but there you have it. Hope this helps anyone who is having the same problem as I did.

FWIW, re: NET 1.1. vs NET 2.0:

I chatted with a Microsoft Tech Support Professional re: another issue that involved another app not installing unless .NET 1.1 was installed. His comment to me was that .NET 1.1 and .NET 2.0 actually have different functions and that BOTH should be on the system together rather than one vs. the other.

I've also read on here that, in some cases, an app that would normally use .NET 2.0 ends up using .NET 1.1 if it's on the system. Whether that happens in all cases, I don't know. But, for the time being anyway, I have .NET 1.1, the .NET 1.1 Quick Fix, and .NET 2.0 on my system and they all seem to be a happy family.

I've disable hotkeys, system tray and splashscreen, but ATI's CCC is still slow. While in a nice state of "disable everything", I found out (in my case) that it's the damn display detection option that slows CCC down like crazy.

Disable it in the CCC in the Display Options section by selecting Use manual detection only. From what I understand, this function would technically only be used IF you where to plug a different monitor or tv to your video card. Then again, I haven't had time to get more information about this feature.

Anyway, at least now it takes only 2 seconds to get the CCC up and running and to change the 3D options (obviously the only place that would need frequent changes).

that would have been me.it's still working fine for me, matter of fact it's the fastest I think I have ever seen the CCC open.I like this set of drivers so far,the games that I'm playing right now are as smooth as ever and some even seem to be smoother.I quit playing the "benchmark game" a couple of months ago so I couldn't tell how well they do in benches.

Browsing ATI's site is always deathly slow for me -- maybe their https implementation (can't figure why it's https in the first place) is faulty. They should have plenty of bandwidth, since when you actually start downloading it's fast.

thx for letting us have a choice ati, atleast for another month.thats all the ranting is about.i dont even use the cp i use att and have for a long time.eventually when new drivers are written they will need .net to even have there basic functionallity.thats what i am worried about and should never happen..bill 2.0 is going to take over the world and all your pcs,but not mine damnit.its going to be me and bill, one on one, and i am going to kick his ass.

BTW: When is ATi gonna make there website cross-browser compatible? More specifically make the tree use a standard javascript or something so that it isn't fully distended when I enter the driver/technical support area. Am I the only one who is still pissed about this, I mean we told them when they first did it that it sucked and didn't work right, but has it changed in the slightest? I am getting more and more tired of ATi.

After reading all these pages on the demise of the CP and not being a lover of CCC, imagine my surprise when the first page I go to to download the 5.12's offers the usual option of Standard CP.

Well first I have a question maybe some one can answer,I downloaded,.net 1.1.then .net2.0 and now when I reboot instead of going straight to xp's desktop,I have a login page and have to click on my name to get into windows, when I went to admin it now list ASP.net as an account on my computer,...what the hell is that about???? So before I install 5.12 cats with the ccc, which I have never had luck with but am willing to try the ccc one more time,I'll wait and check back to see if any one can answer my question.

You mean since like 5.10? It been reported but as you can see its not
a serious problem
maybe if things where currupted and looked like crap
or if more people noted and reportd it It would probubly get more attention.

I could tell you and I think I told you before. It a matter of a single line entry
in the INF and it has nothing to do with the performace of you card. You card
uses the device ID for a X800GTO , but your cards subsystem ID is not listed
show you card shows as a X800GTO. As that is the matching entry for you
card, If you really worried abour it open the .INF and rename evey X800GTO
line to what you want displayed... Can be anything like X26000XT PE EXtreme
has no effect on the performance of your card.

omfg..

I don't know what you guys are having difficulties with... since the 5.6's, the CCC has been fast as hell, works great... and does everything i just about need it to do very easily.

Top if off, since the 2.0 .net release... i've used 5.10s 5.11, 5.12's now with ZERO issues aside from the little big of an initial load time of the CCC on first start. (when trying to open the CCC).... as far as anything else.. i've yet to see anything else other then a little faster responding CCC with 2.0.

I don't have 1.1 install at all..

Fresh install of xp pro sp2... .net 2.0.... drivers.. and works kickass great.

And for those of you who just don't want to give up.... the day has come.. and you guys were given a choice more then a year ago to expeience the CCC or not. Well, the choice was voted and you guys wanted the orginal old control panel..... be happy you got it this long. Frankly, in comparison to the old, the CCC officially blows it outa the water on any machine i have an ATI card (be it a 7000 ve all the way up to a freshly installed x1800xl including everything between)

Grow up, quit complain and making the moronic stupid comments "This is my last ati card", etc.

Frankly, leave, use NVidia for the next "very few" months they keep there orginal panel yet... as it's going "Bye bye" like ATI has.

IMO, you guys are just irritatingly rediculous....

well Judas it's obvious that not everyone has the same response. I had to revert to the previous CCC from 5.11 due to the hanging splash screen with this version. It feels like you are scolding me or talking down to a child. So I guess you are saying I dont know how to make a PC function on my own..... yeah ok right... it's all good
