When is TRUE x64 drivers on the way?

I'm currently playing between xp pro sp2 and xp 64 bit sp1 installations..

and one thing that is catching my eye is the fact that aside from the core drivers being 64 bit, everything else is 32bit. Even the installation is all 32 bit, cli is 32 bit... you name it.

So are we using a 64 bit driver with 32 bit programs?

This is how it will be till Vista is out. CPU's are not true 64BIT they just have 64bit extensions.

The cpu's are 64 bit, Vista isn't going to change that.

.NET 1.1 did not have an x64 version however, .NET 2 does so it would be possible to make the CLI.exe 64 bit with that.

However as for the installer, why does it matter if that's 32-bit?

not a major concern over the Installer portion... but considering everything else, it's usually better to keep everything under one roof, then having to pass things back and forth between 2.

Plus, seeing everything running in true 64bit mode... would be nice and shiny looking in my processes tab

True 64 bit?

AMD designed the 64 bit cpu's as being capable of smooth transition from an OS that is 32 bit to one that is 64bit. XP 64bit is a True 64 bit os, same with the 64bit linux OS.
