Shared Memory, Please HELP!
Hi Everyone
,I was just wondering how do i use some system memory as video memory? Just for the fact my system is good except my card only has 16mb ram, and in older versions of ati drivers, you could use up to 28mb of system memory as video memory, and as i have 1024mb ram, i'd really love to enable this. All (non-flame) answers are very much appreciated. Thanks, DashX |

Video card settings for shared memory are normally found in the BIOS

You can access any BIOS - even if it's on a laptop. We got 3 laptops at work which I have to fiddle around in the BIOSes to get the external CD writer to work via USB sometimes

Try pressing the DEL key when it's powering up and counting memory

I used nearly all ATI cards released in the last 5-6 years (excluding 9700) and I never seen that option.
Shared system memory is usually found in integrated chipset graphic. I might be wrong though, if you find out something please post it here.

It was in the control panel, underneath the "KTX Buffer Region" option. That tab in the control panel no longer exists :'(

By the way, before changing the option my vram was 16mb, after setting it to "use 28mb", and restart, vram displayed was 43mb vram. i wish it was still in, now all my games are too choppy for 16mb.

Ok, I know for a fact that in some version of catalyst it is possible to enable the KTX option. I wonder if that would bring back the share memory too. I shall do some testing. What drivers are you currently using, Omega's or the ones provided by your laptop manufacturer?

I believe your laptop is based on the IGP 3x0 family chipset.
This chipset can use up to 64MB of system memory. Could you tell me the exact model of your laptop and the latest drivers that gave you the option for shared memory? I need to find out the name of the registry key that enables that tab. |
