With the latest releases of catalyst UT04 is almost unplayable because the frame rate is too low, but only when there are many lightsources at the same place. It doesn't matter witch resolution or detail level is set, it's the same with 1280*1024 as with 640*480 + the lowest settings.
Config: UT2004 3355 Catalyst 6.2 See sign. Any ideas?

screen shots? what Map? Area of MAP? FPS before and after?
Your CCC CP settings? You useing AA/AF etc... Details could be useafull.... I'll load it up for ya to test it but I stopped actively playing the game as it engine is "unstable" for the hardcore gameing I do after many hours of play it always eventually ends up crashing with some sort of engine error... Though UT2003 and before that all ran fine to date....

Yup, UT2k3 runs better than UT2k4, which is why I play 2k3 more...
Surprising that 2k4 runs bad on your specs, It runs fine on mine (OK, only at 1024 or lower, with AA, and AF turned of!!!) We need more info to work out what the prob can be though... cause_of_chaos

Dalton Sleeper, as neon said, tell us your CCC settings and in game details settings. One last thing, have you tried taking both the UT2004.ini and user.inis out of your system folder to let the game create the new files? If you still have problems, pm me and I can send you my tweaked ini files to see if that helps any. |

Most maps runs great with 60-200 FPS without vsync (often enabled 60Hz). There is a indoor map that goes down to 10-15 FPS when looking at the lights, nothing special on this map besides it's grey and boring. I don't remember the name right now, I can post it later. Another map that is unplayable is the ice map. I don't play the game very much but I think the framerate is way too low for my system.
I always play the game with maximum settings and forced 16AF from ATT since there is no big difference between low and maximum ingame settings. I have played this game many times before and have never noticed any performancedrops. Could it be a driverproblem? I change to the newest ATI drivers every month after cleaning the old with drivercleaner.

Ok, here are the screenshots. They were taken with ATI Tray Tools fps counter but it didn't appear on the screenshots. Anyway, the counter showed over 150 fps on the first pic, and only 20 on the other one. What's the difference between these pics that makes the performancedrop. Map DM-IronDeity Maximum settings Forced 16AF Res 1280*1024 http://hem.passagen.se/dalton-sleeper/bilder/154.jpg http://hem.passagen.se/dalton-sleeper/bilder/20.jpg

could you hit the ~ key and type :
stat fps hitting enter then taking screenshots...? that way we can see how low it is.... and average.. AND update ut2004 to 3366..... some good amount of changes there...

In that same spot on my x700pro 256mb.....i'm getting roughly 85fps (vsync forced on) with 1024x768 (1280x1024 is a no no with vsync, as it'll cut me to 42.5 most of the time)
course i'm running the 64bit eddition of the game which gives me a better version of DX (dx9 support) and it just is faster..

Ok, maybe it's time to upgrade my CPU, this barton has been a damn good one, until now
Quite strange this is a map with me and a bot as players when other maps runs just fine with 10 or more bots. Anyway, here are some more screenies: http://hem.passagen.se/dalton-sleeper/bilder/1.jpg http://hem.passagen.se/dalton-sleeper/bilder/2.jpg http://hem.passagen.se/dalton-sleeper/bilder/3.jpg http://hem.passagen.se/dalton-sleeper/bilder/4.jpg http://hem.passagen.se/dalton-sleeper/bilder/5.jpg

your all over 100fps.... i'd say that is quite good....
are you getting intermittend stutters that don't appear to really effect your fps? cause i'd highly suggest you turn on Vsync..... a steady solid 85fps (or if you can do it, @ 120hz refreshrate, vsync enabled at that high a refresh rate is utterly amazing) vsync is also great for providing a more stable playable frame rate..... saves unnessaryly wasted resources as well...

Mine works just fine. Switching to 6.2 actually gave me a bit of a boost

If you mean the command rate it's 1T, I flashed to tictac/enduracells bios AN718_DE8 1T.
My integrated sata controller isn't very stable and have never been since i bought this mb, I had to change a setting from 30us to 1ms and use the newest bios for the sata controller/motherboard + latest drivers to get it to work, otherwise I get CRC errors in almost every file, last time i lost about 150gb of important files. Another thing is that the sata controller dies everytime I change a setting in bios, only thing to do is to shut down the PSU and then restartOFT: Found a cheap X2 4800+, but vill it work on: EPoX EP-9NDA3+,nForce3 Ultra,Socket-939 ATX,S-ATA,GbLAN,Firewire,DDR, AGP8X ? I want to use my current GFX on it so for now it's AGP, if there is a better s939 motherboard with AGP, let me know

IMO, the value of a 4800+ is a little prices in terms of the small boost over a 4400+..... If you figure dollar value is a major concern.... i'd suggest getting a 4400+ and if 4800 speeds are required.... a small boost to the fsb is fairly simple and doesn't seem to even cause any stability so far... (just a suggestion)....

The difference between the 4400+ and 4800+ is very tiny....except in price. It isn't a worthwhile chip unless you just want the best of the best sans OCing

I would be happy if I get it over 2600, even happier around 2800 but think it's almost impossible with aircooling.
