It was a 1.1 only install, i've no need for 2.0 atm so dont intend to install it. Also, i am using a comparible ATI based motherboard so its not that either.

As for 2003, i've not got it saved on my HD and wont be downloading it. I dont use the orb either so wont be uploading any scores.

Is anyone at rage seeing the same issue?

ok, i spoke to ati about this and their response was that initial investigation into the matter has not shown any increased CPU usage in Catalyst 6.2. They will continue to look into the matter, however it does not seem to be an issue they can reproduce.

They did assure me that all Catalyst releases go through rigorous testing, which includes both CPU limited cases as well as GPU limited cases, and they felt they would definitely have noticed an increase in CPU usage if it had occurred. Therefore it seems this may be a system specific issue.

Posts by other members here and the guys over at Rage would seem to back up these findings.

jpinard is on a distinguished road

Veridian - thanks for your help. I've definitvely isolated the issue now. Please see this thread for my thesis http://www.hardwareheaven.com/showthread.php?t=99295

For the cliff notes version - it's the ati3duag.dl_ file in the 6.2 drivers. I know the above thread is very long - but I just spent the last 20 hours putting it all together. You/ATI should see after reading it why no one else is reporting it yet.
