19 Flash Drive Roundup

19 Flash Drive Roundup

SuperTalent DG 4GB

The SuperTalent DG is not a drive which could be missing from our round-up. The DG series (along with the similar DH series) are the fastest flash drives from SuperTalent currently in production. Despite all that, the packaging of the DG 4GB drive which we received was extremely simple and there was no bundle at all. There is not even a mention of the drive’s model on the package! The DG drive which we received is rated for 200x speed operation; the fastest flash technology currently available for consumer use. Its dimensions are 37x11x7mm (LxWxH) so the DG is actually a small flash drive, slightly larger than an AAA battery.

The monolithic shape of the DG is very simple, yet the perfect shape and remarkable paint job make it look really classy. The cap of the drive slides in and out very smoothly, perhaps a bit too smoothly as it is easy to dislodge and easily lost. The rear part of the flash drive is a red access LED light, thankfully producing a light soft enough not to be annoying. You can also tie a lanyard at the rear part of the DG drive, assuming that you have or you will buy one as one is not included.

Transcend Jetflash V30 4GB

Transcend is a well known manufacturer of RAM and flash memory and probably has the largest flash drives line-up with over 16 different types of flash drives currently in production, nonetheless we had the chance to test only one for our round-up, the Jetflash V30. The Jetflash V30 is supplied with a basic manual, advertisement leaflets, a warranty card, a software CD and a lanyard. The dimensions of the Jetflash V30 are 59x16x8mm (LxWxH), about the size of a small lighter.

The V30 may be a value drive but Transcend placed some effort into making it visually attractive. The piano black painted body gives the V30 a high class look and feel but it also gets easily dirty by fingerprint marks. At the top side of the drive you can see the company logo and the model type and size right under it. The V30 also has a blue access LED light placed right next to the company logo beneath the thin plastic body which is not visible while the drive is not being used.

U Disk Drive FD-14 2GB

It is very likely that most of you never heard of U disk drive. U disk drives are commonly known as ChipsBNK devices and are made by the Hong-Kong based company, Diamond. Their low price makes them highly popular for companies which buy, rebrand and resell large quantities of technology products, as well as companies which paint and freely distribute low-capacity flash drives as an advertising method. The FD-14 flash drive is supplied in a small cardboard package and has a basic black lanyard bundled with it. The body of the FD-14 is made out of aluminum but it is too thin to make the drive highly durable. The dimensions of the FD-14 are 59x16x7mm (LxWxH).

The monolithic design is extremely simple and there is nothing to break the monotony of the brushed aluminum silver body, not even a company logo. The cap is made out of plastic and is painted black, matching the bottom part of the drive. There is a small red access LED light, barely visible even while the drive is connected and working. No software of any kind is preloaded or bundled with the unit.
