As with every system we receive one of the first things we do is start to dismantle it, this allows us to get a good look at the build quality but we can also find out exactly what parts are included and how recently they were manufactured. Shown above is the battery. It is a 6450mAh model and the good news is that these are widely available online for $100 if you need a spare, or replacement, at any point. (It is also possible to add an additional battery during the order process.)

There are two hard drive bays on the M9750 and each can take a single SATA 2.5” model. Our review sample contained two Samsung 250GB, 5400rpm models with 8mb cache in a RAID 0 configuration giving a total of 500GB. When ordering the system the options range from single 120Gb 5400RPM drive up to 640GB (2x320GB 5400rpm) in RAID 0. Additionally, if you are feeling a little quirky there is the option to choose a 32Gb Solid State Drive, or two in RAID 0.

The removal of one panel reveals the majority of the laptops components and as shown above it is a very clean and tidy build. We removed each cooler in turn checking for suitable thermal paste and found no anomalies. The most notable aspect of the system when viewed like this is the cooling. The left fan is responsible for cooling the CPU (Core 2 T7600, 2.3GHz. 4mb cache), Chipset, (Intel 945 based) and graphics hardware which includes the first GeForce 7950 GTX. The second fan is responsible mainly for cooling the second SLI card, another 7950 GTX with 512Mb of memory. In each case the air is drawn in from underneath the laptop and expelled through the back. Both the CPU and graphics cards can be changed during ordering and the current options are:

CPU: T5500, T7200, T7400 and T7600.
GFX: Single Geforce 8700M GT 512MB, Dual 7950 GTX 512MB or Dual 8700M GT 512MB.

On the right hand side of the system we can see the only other main component which is clearly visible, the memory. Our review sample was equipped with two gigabytes of DDR2-667 with timings of 5-5-5-15 running in dual channel mode. During the order process this can be increased to four gigabytes (2x2GB) or reduced to one gigabyte (2x512mb).

There are two further components which are installed as standard, Bluetooth and an Intel Wireless a/b/g card which can be upgraded to a draft N specification model if required. One further component can be added to the system (internal) and this is a TV-Tuner. The tuners available vary by region but in the UK you can opt for an analogue and digital model which comes with remote.

Finally here are the exact measurements of the m9750:
Height: 1.5” Width: 15.65” Depth: 11.75” Weight: 8.5 lbs
