Sapphire Radeon 4850 X2

This year has been a positive one for ATI with a blistering range of award winning hardware available … right from the wallet friendly 4830 series to the cutting edge, frame melting 4870 X2 cards. They have not only been focused to remain competitive on the pricing front but they are determined to outperform Nvidia as well.

Today we are going to look at the HD4850 X2, an exclusive beast from Sapphire set to slot in directly below the class leading 4870 X2, a card which has scooped our highest awards in several reviews. We have high hopes for the new Sapphire board as the single core 4850 has been a big success in the enthusiast market with a potent combination of great value for money and strong performance.

With an estimated price of around 419 USD/270 GBP +VAT it is set to go virtually head to head with Nvidia’s GTX 260 & GTX 280, cards which have remained firm favourites in our offices since they were released. The big question today is how does the Crossfire enabled Sapphire HD 4850 X2 compare against its little brother as well as competition from Nvidia in the upper range of the market?
