click here Steelseries IKARI Laser Mouse On first impressions the SteelSeries Ikari mouse instantly makes it clear that it has been purpose built from the base up. This is a no frills no nonsense mouse for the professional gamer with minimal features and an incredibly ergonomic design. There aren’t any variable weights or flashy lights, what we have here is a serious product.

Product image Looking around at all the angles, you can see the carefully shaped curves that SteelSeries have given the mouse and when you finally rest your hand in place you realise what an incredible job they have done – the mouse is supremely comfortable. Compared to other gaming mice I have used over the years, this one brings a whole new level of ergonomics to the table. The side panels on the mouse are constructed from rubbery soft touch plastic which provides fantastic grip and comfort which in turn aide with tracking accuracy. Your thumb slides perfectly into place on the left hand side, with the two extra buttons in the ideal location for binding quick actions to such as your melee attack. As you might have already noticed, the High/Low CPI indicator is towards the bottom of the mouse on this side, letting you know which of the two settings you are currently using. Even the side panel on the opposite side of the mouse has been designed to provide superior comfort and grip for your two unused fingers.

Product image As you can see in the picture above, the central piece of the mouse has been shaped as one panel which keeps the mouse looking sleek and gives the buttons a unique feel. Instead of using the traditional method of constructing the buttons from two separate pieces of plastic, SteelSeries have taken advantage of the natural flex in the plastic to create the buttons, which provides some pretty remarkable results. They are incredibly light to the touch, not so light that you actuate them accidentally, but fine tuned to provide fantastic tactile feedback to the user.

see In between the two buttons is the scroll wheel and DPI switch. Unlike many standard mice, the Ikari’s scroll wheel doesn’t spin easily and gives a pronounced response when moved by a single notch to ensure that you don’t accidentally pull out the wrong weapon in the heat of battle.

go to link On the underside of the mouse are the thick Teflon pads which give the mouse its fantastic glide and the small display which has several functions. By default it displays the current active profile, but in situations where you do not have the software handy the display is used as part of an interface which allows you to adjust your CPI settings on the spot. I’ll explain how this is done on the next page.
