Final Thoughts and Conclusion

The Rosewill R901-P is a chassis which could have been a lot better had they identified the existing design flaws and fixed them before the case was produced. It really is a shame as in other aspects the case looks quite promising for its specific market sector.

In my history of building computers I have never once had to remove a top exhaust fan to install a standard ATX PSU such as the CoolerMaster unit used in the test setup. This feature should really have been either omitted or redesigned. Similarly, the hard drive installation method should have been thought through a little more carefully – removing the entire motherboard isn’t exactly what you would call practical and the cage is mighty difficult to remove from the 5.25” bays. The top fan also rattles when the system is in operation.

Despite the obvious design flaws mentioned above the case does have a couple of strong points. Firstly, while the chassis is poorly designed it fortunately doesn’t make use of too many flimsy plastic parts save for the front fascia. Additionally, while it is slightly weak in the area around the PCI-E slot covers the majority of the core chassis is quite rigid and sturdy. Air flow is also at a reasonable level in the case… nothing groundbreaking but certainly respectable for most basic purposes and needs.

While there are obvious design flaws, the case is still an option for those on a budget due to the overall strength of the construction and flexibility regarding the placement of fans and the movable hard drive cage. However, there are many other cases I would look at before contemplating this as a possible purchase.
