With AC/DC, Metallica and Aerosmith getting the band tributes on Guitar Hero and Rock Band recently it seemed only a matter of time before the biggest band, on the planet, ever had their own game. Developer Harmonix are behind the forthcoming Fab Four Rock Band release due out on September 9th. Gamingheaven managed to get a hands on recently and we have our little preview today based on an hour long demo with a full review of the final game just before release.
The Beatles music while instantly recognisable is not set to pose the same kind of challenges we have endured in the past with such tracks as “Through The Fire and the Flames” by Dragonforce. This time around Harmonix have created a fun game for fans of Beatles music which is likely to pull in a huge audience who have grown weary of the necessity to learn 150 note guitar solos and complex hammer ons. You follow the career of The Beatles right to the final performance at the famous Apple records.
Quickplay mode lets you jump right into it and every song is unlocked immediately. You don’t get character customization because you play as one of the actual group which is set to be a purists delight.
While this might sound like a reason to omit looking at the story mode there are facets the developers have instigated to keep it a viable proposition. You get to unlock videos of the Beatles as well as photos and other little extras. This will be an instant thrill for followers of the band and even non Beatles fanatics will get something from the multitude of content on offer. Paul McCartney had a hand in this material so you can be assured it is up to scratch and mets the quality we would expect.
The rewards system is simple enough because you get awarded some stars for playing a song. Apparently Harmonix have sweetened the deal by providing previously unheard of Beatles material so we can safely assume this game will also be purchased by collectors worldwide.
The Story mode is split into various sections each with its own selection of tracks which are connected to the specific time zone within the Beatles career. The career starts out in the Cavern Club and the songs are played for a small but excited audience … as the career unfolds your journey takes you through the history of the actual band which was a hell of a ride. When you complete a section in Story mode you are shown a cut scene with pictures of the band and their progression through the years. This is really were Harmonix excel – in the presentation of their games and The Beatles: Rock Band is no exception to this rule.
We are excited about this game for all the reasons above and generously there is noted to be around 45 songs in the retail version… check back on GH shortly for an indepth look!
