Cooler Master Hyper TX3

The installation holes used by Intel on Socket 1156 sit between those used on 775 and 1366; this means that we require heatsinks with new installation components. Cooler Master have opted to use the standard push pins and allow us to slide them along the bracket from 775 to 1156 positions.

The Hyper TX3 comes packaged in a transparent plastic case which allows us to see the full heatsink and fan. Inside the small purple box at the bottom of the package are the bundled items which contain components for AMD AM2/3 and Intel Socket 775/1156 installations. Also included is a well written instruction leaflet and fan retention wires. The fan provided is Cooler Master branded and is a 9.2CM model with 4pin connector. It runs at a maximum of 2800RPM and has a noise level of 17-35dBA although in normal operation is near silent.

The heatsink weighs 470g and uses aluminium fins with 3 direct contact copper heatpipes. Cooling potential is very good on this model and through use of a second fan we can run it on CPU’s which have TDP up to 130w. Installation is a simple process; for socket 775/1156 we screw the Intel push pins to the bottom of the heatsink, attach it to the motherboard and then use the retention wires to attach the fan. Installation takes very little time, approximately 5minutes and it was nice to see Cooler Master adding rubber pads to the corners of the fan to reduce vibration and noise.
