Overclocking/Thermal Performance

Throughout our testing we were impressed by the cooling performance of the Intel 1156 heatsink, considering its small size and weight it maintained low noise levels and on the 750, very reasonable temperatures at all times. Due to this the aftermarket coolers from Thermalright and Cooler Master would have to offer significant advantages to be worthwhile purchases. In both cases this proved to be the case with the TX3 and MUX-120 performing at very similar levels. Thermalright’s MUX-120 was the performance leader though with a 2c advantage over the Hyper TX3 at full load.

Using the P7P55D Deluxe we began overclocking out CPUs using the MUX-120 as our cooler. The CPU voltage on each system was set to 1.4v. With these settings in place we were able to increase the BCLK on the 750 to 188MHz with the 870’s bus rising by 46MHz. In both cases this resulted in an overclock of 1GHz which is an excellent result on air cooling.
