Apple riding the recession with most profitable quarter ever

Love or Loathe them but Apple seemingly are exempt from many issues other companies are facing with a very strong and loyal user base. Record sales of Iphones and Macs have helped Apple profits to climb 46 percent in the quarter compared to the same time last year.

Revenue has also increased 25 percent and Apple have described it as their most profitable quarter ever. During fiscal Q4 which ended September 26th Apple recorded a net income of $1.67 bn on sales of $9.87bn. Figures last year for the same quarter showed earnings of $1.14bn and $7.9bn in sales.

Steve Jobs was apparently elated and told the press "We’ve got a very strong lineup for the holiday season and some really great new products in the pipeline for 2010."

Apple sold 3.5 million Macintosh computers during the quarter which was a 17 percent increase over last year and beat their last record of 2.61 million during Q4 08. Around 2.3 million of these sales were from the immensely strong Macbook laptop range.

iPhone sales rose seven percent to around 7.4 million units which compares to the 6.9 million iPhones sold in the same quarter last year. The iPod was the only product to slide – by 8 percent, down to 10.2 million.

Meanwhile the Apple stores continue to increase with 273 outlets now in operation.

It seems right now that anything Steve Jobs touches turns to gold but it will be interesting to see if they can maintain the growth over the coming months.
