Sony claim to release the lightest laptop in the X series

Sony have just released their latest series of X series VAIO laptops which they are keen to mention are the lightest made, ever. Not surprisingly the VAIO X series is classed as an ultraportable and weighs in at 1.6 pounds while measuring 7.29 inches x 10.95 inches x 0.55 inches with the default battery. They also plan on releasing an enhanced battery option which will give up to 15 hours battery life. To make the machine so light Sony have created the chassis from carbon fibre and for durability the palmrest and the area around the keyboard is covered in an aluminum frame. They offer the system in gold and black.

The touchpad offers multitouch functionality which allows the end user to scroll, rotate items and zoom. The screen utilises LED backlit technology and is 11.1 inches in diameter with a resolution of 1,366 x 768 pixels.

On a hardware level they offer the system with a 2Ghz Intel processor with 2GB of DDR2 ram with onboard Intel graphics and a 128GB SSD drive. To round out the system it also offers 2 USB 2 ports, Ethernet port and a webcam with face analysis technology built in. Wireless and bluetooth are also standard.

The X series is available for pre order in the states at $1,300 direct from the Sony Style store. UK pricing has not yet been confirmed but we expect a starting point around the £1,100-1,200 bracket.
