Another week has passed and unfortunately the situation with AMD 5800 and 5900 series shortages continues with dealers in the UK and USA having either no stock or just a few samples which sell out almost immediately.
Sadly there seems to be no light at the end of the tunnel for enthusiast users who want to blow a big wad of cash on the amazing 5870 and 5970 series video cards, checking UK stores at the weekend and today we can see there are virtually no stocks anywhere however we did notice that Overclockers.co.uk had 5 XFX 5970s in stock first thing this morning. If you rush now you may be able to snap one up, however be prepared to fork out £540 for the privilege of owning one. Some European dealers are stocking 5970’s for almost 640 euros which is a huge amount of money to pay for a graphics card.
We recently spoke with top AMD executive John Byrne – Vice President of Worldwide GPU and CPU sales and he said “In the very near future, as we overcome supply constraints, we will be increasing shipments of 5800 series graphics processors by roughly an order of magnitude, moving from thousands of units shipped per week to tens of thousands. This should alleviate some of the pent-up demand.“
Sadly, even though we are sure AMD are hard at work making sure they can sell more cards the predicament is still no better but we can only hope that in the coming weeks the situation improves – you can at least get the 5700 series in most stores and we strongly recommend a 5770 Crossfire configuration, it packs a hell of a punch for well under £300.
