AMD expecting CPU profits in 2010

AMD seem positive that 2010 is going to be their best year in a very long time – with Chief Financial Officer Thomas Seifert saying that they expect to show profits in their CPU business.

AMD executives had a meeting with analysts and investors recently and they expressed their growing confidence that they will see profits in 2010 thanks to debt reductions which currently total around $3.2 billion. Seifert said that reducing debt is key to company success and that AMD plan on holding $1 billion cash in hand next year.

Dirk Meyer (CEO) was even more optimistic and in an almost Steve Ballmer moment said “I can already hear the cash registers starting to ring, which is wonderful”. We can almost imagine him doing a little Irish gig as he said it.

Meyer was keen to note that AMD’s strategy is consumer oriented and that their goals are to concentrate on graphics which makes sense as they are riding high on the wave of their recent excellent DX11 releases.

It seems almost impossible for AMD not to comment on the Intel antitrust fines and Meyer was happy to say “I am looking forward to a future in which our ability to succeed as a business is governed by the quality of our products and the quality of our customer relationships – this hasn’t always been true.”
