The stunning news just reached us today that some Applecare warranties have been refused due to ‘health risks of second hand smoke’.
Popular publication The Consumerist has reported that two readers have sent in information regarding Apple refusing to repair their computers due to the presense of damage related to smoking. The customers were told that computers with evidence of smoke damage could not be worked on because Apple classify them as potential health hazards and to have their staff fix them would be a OSHA violation.
Rumours are circulating that one Apple store manager told a customer than her computer was “beyond economical repair due to tar from cigarette smoke”.
Both of these customers were so upset that they have sent letters directly to the office of Steve Jobs. One reader claims to have received a response saying that “nicotine is on OSHA’s list of hazardous substances and Apple would not require an employee to repair anything deemed hazardous to their health.”
We have tried to get in touch with Apple today to verify these claims but we will have to wait until Monday before our contact is available for a possible statement.
