Activision Blizzard can really do no wrong lately and their latest report is staggering – the Call Of Duty franchise has topped the $3 billion mark in global sales.
The series ‘as a whole’ has sold 55 million copies since its launch in 2003 and when the company released the latest title Modern Warfare 2 earlier this month the sales broke all records, even surpassing the previous best held by Grand Theft Auto 4.
The first person shooter actually made over half a billion dollars in sales in the first five days it went on the market and it sold 4.7 million copies in the UK and USA alone, on the first day.
“If you consider the number of hours our audiences are engaged in playing Call of Duty games, it is likely to be one of the most viewed of all entertainment experiences in modern history,” Activision Chief Executive Bobby Kotick said.
Shame I didn’t invest in some company shares at the turn of the century.
