Dell engineers have just released a strictly ‘unofficial’ version of Googles Chrome OS for use on the Dell Mini 10V netbooks. Dell are not yet on the official list of Chrome OS hardware partners but Dell technology strategist Doug Anson has posted on the community blog that he, as well as some other Dell staff have managed to get the open source ChromiumOS running on their Mini 10V machine. He even gives a link to the USB key image file.
Anson’s description of Google’s operating system is interesting. “Without a network connection, ChromiumOS is not very interesting,” he says. “With a network connection, ChromiumOS shines.”
Anson also says that the entire image “comes with absolutely no support of any kind and is to be considered highly experimental and completely unstable.”
