EU hand out almost 15 million euros to Ireland

The residents of Mid West Ireland have been granted 14.8 million euros from the European Parliament after Dell closed their factory in Limerick earlier this year.

Due to cuts Dell closed the Limerick factory in January and they paid off 2,840 people – 2,000 of which were Dell employees while the rest of them worked for suppliers and partners. Ireland applied for EU aid in June and the European Commission proposed support in September. News has reached us earlier today that the Parliament approved the payment from the European Globalisation Adjustment Fund.

This EU plan should provide job guidance and assistance to set up business support, training and retraining as well as education and grants to 2,400 people affected by the closure. While it seems like a huge amount of money the 14.8 million euros will only cover around 65 percent of the total funds required.
