It was impossible to miss the recent news that Intel handed out $1.25 billion to AMD to settle their legal disagreements. Intel are working to ensure this never happens again by hiring a new key staff member who is an expert in this field.
Douglas Melamed joins Intel as a senior vice president and reports directly to the Intel CEO, Paul Otellini. Melamed is tasked with overseeing all of Intel’s legal matters as well as their government and corporate affairs.
Melamed was an acting assistant attorney general who was in charge of the Justice Department’s antitrust division from 1996 to 2001. He was also a partner at WilmerHale, a globally positioned law firm where he spearheaded the Regulatory and Government Affairs Department and served as a member of the Antitrust and Competition Practice Group in Washington, DC.
“We’re extremely pleased to have Doug join the Intel team, his breadth of experience and legal expertise combined with his background in government are an outstanding fit for us.” said Otellini.
