Nvidia GT240 released today

We reported a few days ago that Nvidia were set to release the GT240 shortly and it was launched today – to very little fanfare or interest, even from the company themselves.

We have a few samples with us, but Nvidia seemed to not be that interested in promoting it – the card is their latest 40nm offering and makes a successor to the ancient 9600 GT with performance more in line with the 9800 GT. The card ships with a 550mhz core and has 96 stream processors clocked at 1,340mhz and will be sold with GDDR3 and GDDR5 in 512 or 1024mb configurations via a 128 bit memory interface. The card also supports DX 10.1 and Shader Model 4.1.

Palit have released a Sonic Edition with 1GB of GDDR5 and a 10 percent performance increase compared to the reference board.

We hope to see the card retailing for under 80 pounds to be competitive with ATI’s current line up.
