UK punters get shafted on 5970

ATIs release today of the 5970 has stirred much interest – with performance levels never seen before, even at the highest resolutions and settings.

As expected, availabilty is basically non existent and we are getting a lot of emails this morning from potential customers asking where they can buy their cards from.

Pricing of the 5970 according to ATI should be in the $599 zone, which is actually not bad value for money when considering the technology and power the gamer is getting for their high resolution gaming desires.

Checking UK stores today we are seeing prices of anything up to £560 for the XFX black edition version of the card, which when translated with an up to date currency converter means that UK punters are going to be paying at least $900-$940 for the luxury of owning of these cards.

The Powercolor card we reviewed today is selling for around £520, which translates to a whopping $874 USD – when in reality it should be around the £360 price point.

Most UK tech heads expect to pay a little over the odds for the latest hardware, but we think the UK pricing this morning is bordering on extortionate and we have some concerns that this might not drop down when limited availability hits the stores.
