Ultra thin notebooks show disappointing sales

Ultra Thin notebooks are some of the sexiest computer tech you can buy and almost all the major manufacturers have a few in their lineup, a craze which was kickstarted in recent years by Apple’s Macbook Air. Dell have taken this a stage further with the release of their stunning new Adamo XPS system which we are due to review shortly.

News reached us today from our sources in Taipei that Asus Vice President Tony Chen stated their own ‘Ultra Thin’ sales figures for the end of 2009 will be only around 10% of total sales. All is not all bleak however because Tony, as well as other high profile leaders in the industry reckon that this will change dramatically in 2010 when Intel update the platform. We would imagine this would at least double, however the extra cost of ultra thin machines will mean they will never hit the high figures of say a cheap netbook.

Asus were not the only company readjusting from their previous forecasts of 20-30% as Acer and Lenovo have also said their target fell considerably shorter than expected.
