When will Nvidia Fermi really launch?

Nvidia are positive regarding their upcoming release of the Fermi product range – they reckon it will give them the performance crown once again. This is all well and good, but the big question that needs answered is when exactly it will be available to the consumer. Our industry sources tell us that the first cards will be seen at CES, second week of January but when asked about shipping it all becomes rather more complex.

Even if Fermi is shown at CES we expect it might not be a working model but rather a few showcase pieces of silicon in glass cabinets with video footage rolling behind them. We have been told that the cards may not actually ship for review until possibly the end of January with them hitting retail several weeks later.

With the recent news of the stunning HD5950 and pictures leaked online it seems Nvidia have quite a task on their hands, especially with a dual 5870 card solution (HD5970) in the pipeline.

It is also worth remembering the worldwide shortage of AMD’s latest DX11 capable cards due to 40nm manufacturing process targets not being met so Nvidia really are not losing as many sales as they should be.
