3D Realms have had an eventful year. They got rid of their internal development team in the first quarter of 2009 and then became embroiled in legal battles with the publisher Take-Two relating to the Duke Nukem Forever title. Yet they have ended the year in defiant mood stating that their most famous character will likely be making a return.
3D Realms CEO Scott Miller was quoted in the first printed edition of Gamesauce as saying “The next few years should see a strong resurgence in Duke. There are numerous other Duke games in various stages of development, several due out this year. We are definitely looking to bring Duke into casual gaming spaces, plus there are other major Duke games in production. Almost all of these are unannounced.”
Exactly what format these will be presented in is anyone’s guess. It is likely that one will be an iPhone game as that had already been previously promised, but the Duke Nukem trilogy is also likely to be ported to Nintendo DS and PSP. There has also been a mysterious advertising campaign with Duke being linked to something called D-Day and stating that he doesn’t “stay down for long”.
All in all 2010 could be a big year for Duke Nukem with a movie also supposedly in the works.
