Acer Chairman JT Wang – the guy with the scariest smile in the IT industry
Acer Chairman JT Wang has stated that the ‘ultra thin laptop market with ultra long battery life’ is the future for notebooks and he has been urging Intel to turn their focus into this sector.
Wang is blaming HP and Dell for not pushing their Ultra Thin notebooks very hard in the USA which means consumer focus will never be dedicated to them. This in effect will give Intel the impression that the demand is just not there.
Wang also used the IT Month 2009 consumer trade fair in Taiwan as a case, saying that 50% of their sales on the show were the ultra thin models, pointing to a massive usergroup wanting high quality yet affordable machines.
Acer have an aggressive gameplan in 2010 and their focus is going to be pushing a plethora of competitively priced Ultra Thin notebooks in March and April of 2010 – he says if prices are good, then consumers will buy them.
While the upcoming Adamo XPS is going to cost a small fortune, I think he should at least give Dell some credit for their new Vostro V13 laptop which while very thin is also very competitively priced …. a review of which will be forthcoming in the near future on Driverheaven. We were also impressed with the 10 hour battery life on the new Dell Inspiron 13z.
