Christian group call for Modern Warfare 2 ban

Well it was a long time coming (and a little late after the millions of units already sold) but it appears that the ‘Maine Christian Civic League’ are up in arms over the level of violence in Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and they are calling for it to be banned.

In a statement they say:

All decent people should denounce the video game “Modern Warfare 2;” and join in opposing the sale and use of such games. Moreover, it may be time for Maine to begin a debate over the advisability of banning these games completely, giving due consideration to both the First Amendment, and the danger these violent games pose to the public.

The group feel strongly that the availability of these games, as well as drugs and ‘outrageous rock music’ is a ‘witchs brew which will eventually lead to tragedy’.

Fox News covered this recently on TV and they suggested “there is nothing to stop that kid from playing it and becoming a terrorist … on a video game.”

I don’t know about you, but I find these first person shooters are a totally innocent way to let off steam and chill out after a hard day – it always amazes me that the gaming industry are continually targeted when there are some really twisted movies available. I certainly don’t feel they should be ‘targeted’ either but it seems very narrow minded to just single out computer games.
