GamingHeaven’s Game of the Year 2009 Awards
ROLE-PLAYING

Disappointing is what 2009 was for role-playing fans. How could it not be, when the first half of the year saw hardly any releases and these last few months didn’t exactly produce a plethora of titles? But alas, role-players were left starving. Ah, who are we kidding. No role-player could remain anything but stuffed after Dragon Age and Demon’s Souls were released. And thankfully it doesn’t end there!

Mario & Luigi:
Bowser’s Inside Story

Nintendo DS

“It’s-a me, Mario!” Not the typical shout you would expect from an RPG hero, but there you have it. The DS might not be next-gen, but the gameplay of this game certainly doesn’t show that!

Aion.jpg

It was dubbed the WoW killer. Did it succeed? Hardly, but it would take a miracle to topple Blizzard’s behemoth. Aion does do most things right however, and adds a third axis to movement, exploration and combat. Definitely a fresh take on the MMO genre.

Demon’s Souls

Playstation 3

Remember the days where it took more than a few button presses to kill a boss? A time, when you could call yourself a man for finishing a game? Demon’s Souls remembers those times. And it brings them back, with some added difficulty just to spice things up. Not for the fainthearted!

HalfMinuteHero.jpg

Half-Minute Hero

Playstation Portable

You can’t boil and egg in 30 seconds. Nor can you save the world. Or can you? In HMH, you complete short, challenging segments that only last 30 seconds. Sounds boring and repetitive? It isn’t! In fact, it is all but…
