LaCie, one of the industries leading storage providers are the latest in a long line to release external USB 3.0 hard drives. Thankfully they are also one of the more clever companies and have realised that slotting a single drive into a unit is not the best way to saturate the USB3 bandwidth capabilities.
The Device has been made in collaboration with Symwave and will be available as a dual 1TB unit offering a RAID 0 configuration of 2TB with much faster data transfer. Those of you who are more safety aware will be glad to hear that they offer RAID 1 options as well.
The company are promising burst read speeds of up to 275MBs which should cater for even the professional userbase who need maximum performance for High Definition video recording and conversion. The unit is aptly named the 2Big USB 3.0 and will be available in both 2TB and 4TB options (2x1tb and 2x2tb respectively). You can also get them preformatted for either Windows or Mac operating systems.
If this interests you then keep your eye out for availability… which we hear will be early next year, prices have yet to be confirmed.
