Valve have announced that survival horror game Left4Dead2 will get a sprinkling of new content in the new year via The Passing, which links up the original cast from the first game with the new guys.
According to Doug Lombardi at Valve, the new content will be “the most important campaign in the Left 4 Dead story.” The add-on will also introduce a new zombie type, melee weapon, and firearm as well as new multi player content and single campaign parts. The most intriguing feature announced has to be the re-introduction of the original 4 cast from Left4Dead, which will see them fighting alongside the new characters introduced in the second game.
There is no word on pricing just yet, although previous downloadable content for the original game was free on the PC and whilst the first instalment was also free to xbox users, the second update “Crash Course” was a $7 add-on for 360 owners. It is not clear if this will be another charged download, although rumours suggest Valve are under pressure from Microsoft to ensure it is, where as Valve have always been very good about giving away extra content free of charge in the past, particularly Team Fortress 2 updates, which will see yet another large update before Christmas.
The second game of the series has sold over 2 million units in retail outlets and that figure doesn’t include the steam downloads and the new content may well help shift a few more copies yet, regardless of it being free or not.
