Mozilla man urges FF users to ditch Google

Asa Dotzler, a very well respected member of the Mozilla Foundation is urging Firefox users to ditch Google search in favour of Microsoft’s Bing – not for personal reasons, but for security concerns over privacy. Dotzler is using his blog to stress his concerns over recent comments by Google Chief Executive Eric Schimdt.

Schimdt stated “If you have something that you don’t want anyone to know, maybe you shouldn’t be doing it in the first place. Search engines — including Google — do retain this information for some time and it’s important, for example, that we are all subject in the United States to the Patriot Act and it is possible that all that information could be made available to the authorities.”

Dotzler was furious over these comments and said that if fellow Firefox users are concerned about their privacy then they should switch to Microsoft’s Bing search system and use this little free plug in which aids in the process. Dotzler also points out that Bing’s published privacy policy is much more robust than the one that Google offer.
