Another manufacturer has joined the ranks of releasing new machines featuring an Intel CULV processor. The new Packard Bell EasyNote Butterfly Touch Edition is a great looking piece of kit – an 11.6 inch tablet based around the 1.6ghz Intel Core 2 Duo SU9400 processor. We had a look at an ULV intel processor a while ago within the Dell Inspiron 13z and we found it a much better option than any of the Atoms we had looked at previously.
Onboard graphics are delivered by the Intel GMA 4500MHD which probably accounts for the high quote on the battery life of around 8 hours … we think this could be easily attainable thanks to the low power drain of the SU9400 processor. To round out the package there is 640gb of storage and you can configure the machine with up to 4GB of ram. For those of you who who have a big HDTV you will be pleased to hear that the Packard Bell system has a HDMI output (as well as VGA) so it can easily double up as a media PC in a main living room. Windows 7 Home Premium is the OS of choice.
Interestingly the system will ship with an 11.6 inch multi touch screen (1366×768 res) which can rotate 180 degrees to turn the unit into a tablet PC. Packard Bell have also included a built in accelerometer which keeps the image orientation right way up and surprisingly all this doesn’t come at the expense of weight – Packard Bell are quoting 1.6kg, which is very impressive indeed.
The image above shows the ‘Nightsky Black’ finish but you can also purchase a ‘Cherry Red’ unit if that tickles your tastebuds.
The retail price is meant to be around the £499 point which looks to be really good value for money and availability is set for late February 2010.
