Quake Live, the free-to-play online shooter, has been given a festive makeover by ID software. New content has been released in the latest update including a festive map and two suitably attired extra characters to choose.
The new map is a slightly re-designed version of Distant Screams appropriately entitled “Silent Night”. It is a 32 player capture-the-flag arena that will no doubt prove to be a popular twist on the classic map this holiday season.
The new characters include the big man himself, Santa Claus, and a character known as “festive helper Vixen” that will be available to select across all game-types.
These changes are only for a limited time only, expiring on the 5th January 2010, but coming in with these changes are some significant game updates as well. They have now removed support for legacy network protocols. This should resolve issues some players were having when IPX was installed.
