Seagate have announced their new Pulsar solid state drive and they have stated that it will be the first of several ‘enterprise’ class SSD products to be released.
The Pulsar is a 2.5 inch drive using Single Level Cell flash (SLC) with a 3Gbit/s Sata II interface with 50GB, 100GB and 200GB options. Interestingly there is a DRAM cache and its contents are preserved if power is lost which is a unique function in a device of this class.
Seagate offer a 5 year warranty which also covers the performance – a reassuring aspect for OEMs who need the maximum performance at all times. Peak read and write IOPS with 4kb blocks are 30,000 and 25,000 respectively.
When we asked about the NAND chips or the sourcing of the controller technology – managers remained tight lipped and said that there is a dedicated team of engineers working on the controller technology.
We hope to have a review on DriverHeaven in the future.
