THQ & WWE Settle Legal Dispute And Announce 8 Year Partnership

THQ and WWE have certainly had their ups and downs. Having worked in partnership to produce some of the most innovative, popular and critically acclaimed wrestling games across multiple platforms, they have also been bogged down in a series of legal battles with one another relating to a variety of allegations.

Today however the two companies seem to have come to a resolution, with THQ announcing their new license to make and distribute games based on the WWE globally. This new deal will begin at the very start of the new year 2010 and will span eight years.

Before this was announced THQ had to settle their disputes with WWE and the make of WWE toys, Jakks. The three companies have come to an agreement where no blame is apportioned for the dispute, but THQ will be paying WWE $13.2 million and Jakks $20 million spread over the next four years. The original agreement between these parties will be terminated pending the new deal.

Although the pay-outs might seem as if THQ have come out of the deal losing, the WWE branded games have accounted for almost a quarter of their total revenue, having earned over $1.4 billion in the US alone. As such the agreement will put at rest shareholders and fans of the series alike.
