After having its backside handed to it in 2009 by Modern Warfare 2, Microsoft is now boasting that Halo Reach will be the biggest game of 2010 and that claim is made via an official press release, throwing the gauntlet down to other developers in 2010, particularly the rumoured Call of Duty Vietnam game.
It is without question that the recent CES did see Microsoft coming out of it looking very good and while we cant question the overall popularity of the Halo series as a whole, Halo 3: ODST didnt exactly set the charts on fire, in the same way that Modern Warfare 2 did in 2009. It may however hint that Microsoft are ready to push a huge marketing budget behind the latest Halo game, something they have done in the past with previous releases.
With rumours circulating recently of the next Call of Duty game featuring a Vietnam setting and expected around November this year, Microsoft will know it will have its work cut out to beat the yearly dose of COD. There are other big titles due this year too with Gran Turismo 5 expected to sell well on the PS3 along with Zeldo on the Wii and several top multi format titles planned for release in 2010 that may all pose a threat to Halo in the charts.
There is still no proper gameplay footage out there as yet, despite the fans clamour for it and although new videos have appeared recently showing off a new game engine, this may just be the first down in a long running battle for top honours in 2010.
