Acer is the leading notebook manufacturer in the world having taken over Dell a while back. When it launches new models other companies have to take note and that is what it intends to do in the next few months with the release of some ultra thin models.
Interestingly though, Acer’s chairman JT Wang recently criticised the performance of the Intel CULV processors, blaming them for the perceived low performance of its laptops and hence lower than expected sales.
According to Digitimes Acer expects 30-40% of its notebook shipments to be of the ultra-thin variety – approximately 13-18 million units. We imagine that this means they are hoping that the new styling will drive customers into stores, rather than the performance aspect.
