Alienware M11x – External Appearance – Opened

Product image
When open the M11x is a very impressive looking machine due to the screen design that Alienware have carried over from the larger M1Xx models. The main aspect of this is a high gloss layer which runs out to each of the four edges on the top half of the system. As always, a webcam and microphone are discretely positioned top and centre above the screen. The display used on this model is a WLED model with resolution of 1366×768 (720p).

The Keyboard on the M11x features the same Star Trek style font which Alienware use on all of their systems but as expected for such a compact model there has been quite a change to the board layout. Firstly the keys are narrower than larger laptops and secondly buttons such as delete, home, end, etc. all run around the top right and down the side of the board. This means that the only buttons which don’t feature are those found on the number pad in larger models.

As with other Alienware laptops there the power button is located between the keyboard and screen, there is no touch sensitive panel on this model but the bar which runs from left to right at the top of the keyboard has LED sections for CAPS LOCK, wireless, etc.

Alienware use a Synaptics touchpad on the M11x and it has a honeycomb design. Although not marked on the pad the right and bottom edges can be configured as scroll bars. Two mouse buttons sit below this and have quite a deep action with near silent operation.

Finally, as it is hard to judge the size of this laptop from the pictures above, here it is in comparison to a standard game box… the M11x really is compact.
