When Rockstar Vienna closed down four years ago the staff that then went on to create the Games That Matter Studio are now looking at the same thing happening to them again. After a rebranding to “Deep Silver Vienna” in 2007 the studio was acquired by Koch Media who promised big things for the future. The statement released at the time declared it a “new era for Deep Silver” on the grounds that “Deep Silver Vienna will massively push our reputation as an independent publisher.” Instead it will be closed down leaving some projects unfinished. Most recently they developed Cursed Mountain for the Wii and PC platforms and enjoyed some modest success. Not enough though it seems with Koch Media stating the decision came due to the current economic situation. While most of the staff were surprised by the announcement two of the co-founders had already left earlier, with Hannes Seifer having supposedly moved to Square Enix and Niki Laber as of yet to take up a new position elsewhere.
