Fallout: New Vegas Teaser Trailer Made Public

Fallout: New Vegas will be released this coming fall on PC, Xbox360 and Playstation 3 in both North America and Europe. The good news for long-term fans is that development is being handled by Obsidian Entertainment who are led by the founders of Black Isle Studios, the creative minds behind the original two Fallout games.

The teaser trailer was released this morning and portrays the usual barren landscape, but as the camera pulls back it reveals a largely intact Las Vegas, the neon lights beaming out into the darkness. Stood looking into the city is a shadowy looking figure in a trench coat whose face is obscured by a mask.

The official website for the game explains that it will be a single player only title and will be set “in and around New Vegas in Nevada” suggesting exploration of other areas will be possible. There is no clue as to how this part of the Fallout universe will tie in with the continuity of previous games. However, there was the following greeting for players who will be entering New Vegas:

“Experience all the sights and sounds of fabulous New Vegas, brought to you by Vault-Tec, America’s First Choice in Post Nuclear Simulation. Explore the treacherous wastes of the Great Southwest from the safety and comfort of your very own vault: Meet new people, confront terrifying creatures, and arm yourself with the latest high-tech weaponry as you make a name for yourself on a thrilling new journey across the Mojave wasteland.

A word of warning, however – while Vault-Tec engineers have prepared for every contingency,* in Vegas, fortunes can change in an instant. Enjoy your stay.

* Should not be construed as a legally-binding claim.”

With so much scope for an interesting storyline and references to an already rich universe the possibilities for the game’s plot are numerous. With members of the original’s development team involved this could be another sleeper hit in the making.
