Square Enix Reveal Healthy Profits

Square Enix have recorded a substantial increase in their operating income, with a 68 percent rise from the previous year up to 21.4 billion yen. It continued the good news by revealing that net sales for the year were up 30 percent to 135 billion yen. This seriously bucks the trend of a lot of companies who have been recording losses in the current economic climate.

During that period they have released Final Fantasy XIII in Japan, which smashed sales records, Dragon Quest IX and Batman: Arkham Asylum. The games have all exceeded projections and have contributed to the companies healthy status.

Square Enix president, Yoichi Wada, detailed the secrets of their success:

“Aimed at mid- and long-term growth for the Square Enix Group, we have made solid progress in our business plan set out at the beginning of the fiscal year.

We are pleased with the success of our Final Fantasy XIII launch in Japan on December 17, where we successfully shipped 1.8 million units in this market with a PlayStation 3 installed base of 4 million. And, through our improved localization systems, we were able to set a March launch date in North America and Europe.

Further, our integration activities since the acquisition of U.K.-based Eidos in April are progressing rapidly and allowing us to strengthen our global business framework.”

Things can only improve when Final Fantasy XIII goes on release in North America and Europe, which should be going ahead at the end of March.
