Generally enthusiasts either love NVIDIA or hate them. You will find a few sane souls that do not fall into either category but sometimes that feels like the exception to the rule. Those in the hate camp will be interested to hear that, according to SemiAccurate (love the name Mr Demerjian), performance is very disappointing.
They have posted an article telling everyone that they have numbers from internal evaluation of the GTX480 and in a word – it sucks. Either NVIDIA has some disgruntled employees pumping out leaks or someone is giving out false information. Apparently, and this is just a negative rumour right now, the GTX480 is only approximately 5% faster than AMD’s Radeon HD 5870 including in DirectX 11 games.
It cannot be long now before we get an idea of GTX480 performance. Until then Hardware Heaven thinks all bets are off.
In other news TechConnect are reporting that NVIDIA have a major announcement today 22nd February 2010 and it may be regarding its GPU launch of the GTX480. So keep your eyes peeled for that, and we will try and cover it here at Hardware Heaven as soon we can.
Update: The new announcement is that NVIDIA will be showing off its next generation GPU at PAX East, Boston on March 26th through to March 28th. You may even be able to buy one at the event. Not so groundbreaking with no firm launch date and a release that will probably be in the 1000’s initially.
