Intel Launches Budget SSD

Intel Launches Budget SSD

Product imageIntel launches their new affordable solid state drives.

First it was OCZ with their 32GB $99 drive and now Intel has also entered the budget SSD race with its X25-V, a 40GB $125 drive.

“Perfect for value netbooks or as boot drive for dual-drive SSD/HDD desktops, X25-V delivers SSD performance at an affordable price.

Desktop PCs can now combine an SSD with HDD to boost overall system performance and speed system boot up and opening of applications”

Whilst the 40GB capacity is not going to be enough for most enthusiasts, combined with a traditional spinning HDD the performance impact of SSD can still be felt – with much lower access times and faster throughput. Intel claim that their budget Intel X25-V is nearly 4 times faster than a 7,200RPM drive.

Western Digital are also entering the SSD market as Hardware Heaven reported earlier – it looks like 2010 will be the year that SSD goes mainstream.
