Playstation 3 Problems Are Officially Over

For owners of the older, “fat” Playstaion 3 models the last two days have seen them unable to play without the risk of serious technical difficulties. It was so bad Sony had to issue the bizarre statement advising their customers to not use the equipment until further notice.

With the news that it is now safe to turn on your consoles again they have today explained the problem on the official blog:

“We are aware that the internal clock functionality in the PS3 units other than the slim model, recognised the year 2010 as a leap year. Having the internal clock date change from February 29 to March 1 (both GMT), we have verified that the symptoms are now resolved and that users are able to use their PS3 normally.

If the time displayed on the XMB is still incorrect, users are able to adjust time settings manually or via the internet. If we have new information, we will update you through the PlayStation.Blog or

We apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused.”

Those who were unlucky enough to be affected by the error have since found no lasting damage apart from a few issues with dates relating to PS3 trophies. Owners of the Slim model were not effected.
