Super Mario Kart will be available to buy from the Wii Virtual Console shop from the 2nd April – Good Friday – enabling those who maybe missed the classic the first time around to see how it measures up to the newer version. It’s also a good excuse for some shameless Nostalgia.
The SNES classic will be available for 800 Wii Points, the equivalent of 5.60. It was Super Mario Kart that spawned the franchise that had a run of titles including Mario Kart 64, Mario Kart Super Circuit, Mario Kart Double-Dash, Mario Kart DS, Mario Kart Wii and was something of a cash cow for Nintendo.
The format of having gaming characters put into go-karts and sent out to race each other is one that has been often emulated since, but not many come close to the magic of the original.
