JPR reports that AMD have made substantial gains in the GPU market space.
Intel normally dominates this arena with its integrated graphics going in to low end PC’s and notebooks as well as netbooks. Intel are known to be protective of their integrated GPU chipset making it difficult for other companies like NVIDIA to penetrate the market place with various tactics.
The big news is from Q1 2009 AMD had a market share of 17.1% and now has a market share in Q1 2010 of 24.0%, almost a 7% jump in one year. Intel’s market share fell from 49.7% to 43.1% in the same period whilst NVIDIA has remained quite stable going from 31.1% to 31.5% for the same period.
Intel lost 6.2% of the market according to the report and gave that share away to AMD.
With the advent of CPU+GPU dies next years numbers will be interesting.
