After much benchmarking and educated guesswork the tech specs for the iPad are revealed.
Many had speculated the A4 processor was a custom design by PA Semi (the designers of the venerable Alpha processor that the original Athlon is based around) and that Apple had created a new design. It turns out the new A4 processor is not so exotic after all being based around the Cortex A8 (IP designed by ARM) but running at 1GHz with a PowerVR SFX 535 for graphics.
More info here. Many sites, who are not so enamoured by anything Apple-based, are claiming performance is good but not really fast enough for many tasks that a netbook or small notebook would be able to perform daily – including browsing web pages.
Anyone own an iPad or thinking of purchasing one would be better of waiting for version 4.0 as with most new products in the tech industry.
